According to the detectives, acting on credible intelligence, the multi-agency team received a tip-off about two tanker trucks, identified by registration numbers KBJ 745M and KAK 903S, suspected of transporting ethanol from Mai Mahiu to Nairobi.
However, upon acting swiftly, the team traced the tankers to a garage in the Limuru Kamiruthu area.
“Acting on a tip-off regarding tanker trucks with the registration numbers KBJ 745M and KAK 903S transporting ethanol from Mai Mahiu to Nairobi, the multi-agency team promptly located the tankers parked in a garage in the Limuru Kamiruthu area,” the detectives stated.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers managed to arrest one driver, identified as Edward Nandwa Otundo.
The second driver, however, managed to escape, evading capture.
Otundo was immediately taken into custody and transferred to Capital Hill Police Station, where he is undergoing processing pending his arraignment in court.
Meanwhile, both lorries have been impounded and are being securely guarded at the garage under police watch as the authorities intensify their search for the fugitive driver.
The ongoing investigation aims to uncover further details about the source and intended destination of the ethanol, which is believed to be linked to illegal activities.
The incident underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating illegal trade and smuggling activities that pose a significant threat to national security and economic stability.
