Suspects Behind Chieni Supermarket Looting During Protests in Nyeri and Laikipia Apprehended

Police have made significant strides in the ongoing investigation in Nyeri and Laikipia counties concerning the vandalized Chieni supermarkets after recovering a wide array of stolen goods and arrested multiple suspects linked to the incidents.

One of the suspects, 24-year-old Chris Nduni Wamuhu, was apprehended in a Nanyuki rental house after being identified in circulated videos stealing from the supermarket. Police found him in possession of a stolen Hisense fridge, a Uken water dispenser and other household items.

In another part of Nanyuki, near Kengeles club, 30-year-old Moses Njuguna Gachwe was found with 22 pairs of khaki trousers, 9 T-shirts, 24 pairs of undergarments and sandals which were stolen during the unrest.

Further arrests were made in the outskirts of town at Asian Quarters where 35-year-old Charles Kaariri Mumbi was caught with a junior ride bike and 41-year-old John Ndirangu Ndirirtu was found with six vacuum flasks, a shopping trolley, a LG fridge, numerous luminarc plates and cups.

The investigation is still ongoing with police continuing efforts to apprehend other individuals seen starting fires and absconding with stolen items.

The four suspects who were flushed from different hideouts in Nanyuki will join other suspects who are already in police custody as officers vow to further crackdown on the suspects.
