Three suspects, namely Bernard Mbunga Mbusu, Alphonse Munyau, and Samuel Musembi Kamito, have been apprehended in connection with the abduction and robbery of a pastor near the Nyayo National Stadium on Thursday night.
The arrests were carried out at their residences in Syokimau, Kitengela, and Kamito, orchestrated by detectives from the DCI Nairobi Area Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, supported by their Lang’ata counterparts.
The victim, a pastor at Christ Church, recounted the harrowing experience, stating that he was on his way to dinner after organizing activities for the upcoming Benny Hinn crusade at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The three assailants intercepted him, forcibly bundling him into a waiting saloon car. During the ordeal, the pastor was stripped, photographed, and coerced into disclosing his Mpesa pin under the threat of the images being shared on his social media platforms. The pastor complied and transferred kshs 55,000 to one of the suspect’s phones which was subsequently released.
Responding to the report filed at Nyayo Police Post by the pastor, the DCI team analyzed forensic evidence, leading them to Bernard Mbunga Mbusu’s residence at Village Apartment house number F2 in Syokimau, where the first suspect was arrested. A search of his house yielded three handsets, including an iPhone 13 with the sim card that received the stolen kshs 55,000, along with a PDQ bank card swapping machine.
Following interrogation, Bernard guided the investigators to Kitengela, where his accomplice Alphonce Munyau was apprehended at Stengo 1 Apartment House No. E4, in possession of the victim’s phone.
Alphonso’s interrogation subsequently led the team to Katani in Athi River, where the final suspect, Samuel Musembi Kamito, was captured. The trio was escorted to Langata Police Station, where they are held in custody pending arraignment on Monday.
