The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has escalated its response to serious allegations of human organ trafficking involving Mediheal Hospital’s Fertility and Transplant Centre in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
In a decisive move, the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) has formally taken over the investigation to coordinate and consolidate multiple reports filed across various police stations and DCI offices within the North Rift region.
This follows emerging concerns over the hospital’s alleged involvement in illegal organ harvesting and transplant procedures.
TOCU will lead a comprehensive inquiry, which includes harmonizing existing case files, recording fresh statements from victims, suspects and other individuals with relevant information and deploying forensic expertise to unearth the truth behind the allegations.
“Whereas a number of such cases have been reported at various police stations and DCI offices across the North Rift region, TOCU takes over to harmonize all reports and statements previously recorded, record fresh statements from victims, suspects and anyone with relevant information, as well as employ forensic analysis for a painstaking probe,” stated the detectives.
In a public appeal, the DCI has called on any person whether victims or witnesses who may possess information pertinent to the ongoing investigation, to present themselves at DCI Headquarters, Block B, and share their statements with the Head of TOCU.
The DCI has reassured its commitment to conducting investigations with utmost professionalism, with a view to deliver timely justice to both victims and perpetrators of crime.
