In a crackdown on motorcycle theft in Ruai and Kamulu, police arrested Peter Kamau Muniu, Timothy Irungu Karimi, and Antony Maina Njoroge.
“Peter Kamau Muniu, Timothy Irungu Karimi and Antony Maina Njoroge have been arrested in the wake of escalating cases of motorcycle theft in Ruai and Kamulu areas,” stated the DCI
The arrest was made after a tuktuk theft report, which led Directives of Criminal Investigative Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and Directives of Criminal Investigative (DCI) Ruai to recover the stolen tuktuk at Muniu’s residence, where the suspects were found dismantling it.
In recent months, the Ruai and Kamulu areas have experienced a troubling rise in motorcycle thefts, causing significant distress among residents and business owners.
To address this growing menace, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched a series of targeted operations aimed at dismantling organized theft rings and bringing perpetrators to justice.
The successful apprehension and recovery efforts were attributed to the collaboration between different units within the DCI and the use of intelligence-led operations.
“The collaboration between different units within the DCI and the use of intelligence-led operations played a crucial role in the successful apprehension and recovery efforts,” added the DCI.
The operation commenced when the owner of a tuktuk, registration number KTWB 975T, reported it missing after parking it overnight.
Through intelligence, officers tracked the vehicle to Kamulu and found it in Peter Kamau Muniu’s homestead.
Muniu, a former Kenya Navy officer, was apprehended along with Karimi and Njoroge as they were in the process of dismantling the tuktuk.
During the raid, the police additionally found a maroon Jin Cheng motorcycle, registration number KMDN 972B, and a silver Nissan Wingroad, registration number KCD 143Y.

These vehicles were suspected of being involved in the distribution of stolen and dismantled parts and all recovered items were taken to Ruai Police Station.
Two suspects who managed to escape during the raid are still being pursued by the authorities.
This operation underscores the police’s commitment to addressing the increasing cases of motorcycle theft and dismantling criminal networks engaged in such activities.
