Law enforcement officers in Kiminini Sub-County, Trans-Nzoia County, have arrested two prime suspects believed to be behind a series of violent robberies in the area.
According to the detectives the suspects, Hillary Kirwa Chebonya and Micah Kirui, were apprehended following an extensive manhunt launched after a daring robbery at Shikendu Trading Centre, located along the Kitale-Webuye Highway near the Trans-Nzoia-Bungoma border.
According to police reports, the gang ambushed a bodaboda rider, making away with his mobile phone, Sh6,000 in cash, and motorcycle. In a disturbing turn of events, the assailants also sexually assaulted a woman inside a nearby kiosk before escaping under the cover of darkness.
“Hillary Kirwa Chebonya and Micah Kirui were arrested following a brazen robbery at the bustling Shikendu trading centre, along the Kitale-Webuye highway near the Trans-Nzoia-Bungoma border. The incident saw a ruthless gang ambush a bodaboda rider, robbing him of his mobile phone, Sh6,000 in cash, and his motorcycle. In a shocking escalation, the perpetrators also raped a woman in a nearby kiosk before fleeing into the night,” stated the DCI.
Responding swiftly, officers launched a coordinated operation using forensic leads and intelligence to track the suspects to their hideout.
The operation led to the arrest of Chebonya and Kirui, who are currently being held at Kimimini Police Station for processing and interrogation.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensifying to apprehend additional accomplices believed to be part of the same criminal network.
