A university student, David Oaga Mokaya, was charged with publishing false information at Milimani Law Court,by posting an image of a funeral procession featuring a casket covered with the Kenyan flag escorted by military officers in ceremonial uniform.

According to the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the allegations stem from a controversial image he posted on his X account, “Landlord @bozgabi,” depicting a funeral procession with a casket draped in the Kenyan flag, escorted by military officers in ceremonial attire.

“The court heard that David Oaga Mokaya shared the said image on his X account, “Landlord @bozgabi,” with the caption suggesting it showed President William Ruto’s body being transported,” stated ODPP.

According to the prosecution, Mokaya altered the date on the image to lend it authenticity, an act they argue constitutes spreading false information.

“It is alleged the accused person fabricated the date to make the post appear authentic,”  added the ODPP.

The alleged offense occurred on November 13, 2024, at an unspecified location within Kenya.

Acccording to the ODPP, Mokaya pleaded not guilty to the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhumbi.

He was granted a bond of KSh 100,000 or an alternative cash bail of KSh 50,000.The case has been scheduled for mention on December 4, 2024.
