Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan has tragically passed away.
The artist, whose real name was DeQuantes Devontay Lamar, died on Thursday at his residence in Atlanta.
Known for his signature vocal style, characterized by the phrase “ooh ooh ooh ooh,” Rich Homie Quan emerged onto the Atlanta rap scene in 2011 and formed associations with prominent figures such as Gucci Mane and Young Thug.
Reports from TMZ indicate that he was discovered unresponsive at his home on Thursday afternoon. The specific cause of his untimely death has not yet been disclosed.
His family expressed to TMZ their profound grief, stating they are “shattered and heartbroken” by his unexpected passing. They are also reportedly “searching for answers” regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
Rich Homie Quan’s breakout hit, “Type of Way,” from his third mixtape, facilitated deeper ties within Atlanta’s music community, linking him to artists like Gucci Mane and Birdman, and ultimately to Young Thug.
He was a father to four sons, the eldest of whom was born when he was only 16 years old.
The rapper cited influences such as Lil Wayne, Outkast, and his collaborator Gucci Mane in shaping his musical style.
Rich Homie Quan was recognized for his unique approach, blending melodic elements with the trap influences of Atlanta rap while resisting the genre’s growing emphasis on themes of street life, crime, and violence.
