In the wake of form 1 admission going on in the country, the County government of Vihiga is sponsoring 152 students from poor economic backgrounds to join this year.
The program which involves paying the full school fees is supposed to cater for their upkeep including purchase of personal items and pocket money.
Vihiga’s Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said that education is among priority areas in his administration as human capital plays a vital role in development.
“We will keep a track record of their performance so that deterioration in performance and indiscipline will lead to disqualification.” Said the Governor.
Dr. Ottichilo further urged other leaders to invest in education so as to bring on board as many deserving cases as possible.
Also present was the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for education Dr. Ruth Agesa who asked the beneficiaries to put effort in the studies as that is the only way of reciprocating the philanthropy of the county administration.
“We are still compiling the results of the first cohort to establish how they performed in the KCSE,” Dr. Agesa noted.
She further directed the beneficiaries to be submitting end term progress reports to her office for record keeping.
This year’s beneficiaries are the fifth cohort as the pioneer beneficiaries sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in the year 2022.
