The first leg of direct flights from Nairobi to New York has already returned.
The flight KQ003 which touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 9.20am Tuesday, was received by Deputy President William Ruto.
“The direct flights to the US will enhance trade, investment, tourism and deepen people-to-people relations between Kenya and America. The new route will strengthen our position as a regional hub for business; situate Kenya as the gateway to East and Central Africa; boost the aviation industry and open new horizons for our people.” Ruto said.
The national carrier joins an elite class of African airlines with Kenya being the 5th airline to fly directly to the United States of America.
The direct flights from Nairobi to NewYork are expected to spur economic growth with the airline expected to be the country’s ambassador in tourism. The federal aviation authority has already signed a deal with east African aviation authority to become a training place for the national carrier.
