Five people were Monday killed in two separate road accidents that occurred minutes apart along the Kakamega-Kisumu highway.
In the first accident a bus believed to have been overspeeding lost control and rammed into a bodaboda rider and his female passenger.
The two were crushed beyond recognition.
Shortly later, just a few meters from where the first accident happened, a saloon car ran over three children killing them on the spot.
The saloon car driver and his two children suffered minor injuries and were rushed to Khayega Dispensary.
Confirming the incident Western Region Traffic Commander Geoffrey Njogu cautioned drivers using the road against speeding, considering construction works were ongoing along the road.
“I urge pedestrians to observe the traffic rules while crossing the road. I also caution drivers to observe the speed limits. The road is still under construction and the tarmacked parts are very smooth, which could tempt motorists to speed,” he said.
The bodies of the five were moved to the Kakamega County Referral Hospital mortuary
