A 36-year old man in Ngoingwa Estate in Thika West District died on the spot after jumping off the rooftop of a flat which is still under construction after what eye witnesses say was a drinking spree.
According to neighbours, he resided on the first floor of the same building and was in the company of some friends before the incident occurred. It is alleged that the man made his way to the rooftop after the friends left and jumped off a few minutes later. He sustained a fractured forehead and died moments after police arrived at the scene.
Thika Deputy OCPD Julius Chumbule confirmed the incident and added that the police are investigating circumstances that led to his fatal death. The man’s identity is being withheld from the public until his next of kin have been notified.
This case adds to a number of recent incidents in the country involving people reportedly committing suicide.
