The court of appeal has nullified the election of Homabay county boss Cyprian Awiti. In a ruling read by Judge Fatuma Sichale in Kisumu, the appeal court annulled Awiti’s election on grounds of massive irregularities that marred the Homabay gubernatorial election.
The court has further directed Mr. Awiti to pay sh 4 million to the petitioner who emerged the second in the gubernatorial race Mr. Oyugi Magwanga, former Kasipul member of parliament.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) which has been directed to conduct a fresh election in Homabay County will also pay the petitioner Sh 2Million.
