Installation of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at one of the private hospitals in Kisii town, was poised to boost Universal Healthcare services in the larger Gusii region.
Patients seeking the specialized emergence medication will be rushed to Hema hospital instead of upcountry health facilities in Eldoret and Nairobi.
The ICU’s cost, however, could be disclosed during the launch.
Hema hospital manager,Harun Abuga, claimed the state- of- the- art facility, rivaled those found in the country’s public and private referral hospitals in the capital city.
Besides being manned by qualified medics, the services were affordable and targeted the low income earners in the community,he added.
According to the manager, plans were in place by the hospital to ferry by ambulance patients in need of the ICU services from the region’s remote areas.
Lack of the ICU in the region featured prominently during the Covid19 spike with patients losing their lives while on transit for the emergence medication in Nairobi.
