A Canter whose brakes failed on the Likoni mainland ramp slipped into the Indian Ocean. The canter was ferrying unga and was unable to climb up the hill shortly before it slipped into the water.
The driver and his conductor escaped unhurt. Salim Musa the driver explained that the brakes failed as he attempted to climb the steep ramp at the channel.
Ferry transportation services were disrupted by the incident. Kenya Ferry service is on site.
The Likoni channel handles at least 6,000 vehicles daily .
