CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge clarified that the Swahili name for bank is ‘Banki’. He stated that it was not a grammatical error.

Njoroge said the name ‘Banki’ was picked by the Late Tom Mboya and John Michuki who were minister for Commerce and PS Treasury respectively.

He went on to say that there is no cause to worry and that Kenya has been using the Swahili word consistently on notes. Kenyans had raised questions about the Swahili spelling

On the withdrawal of the old KSh 1, 000 banknotes, he insisted there will be no extension of the October 1st,  2019 deadline.
