Court sets Fridah Shiroya free

National Olympics Committee-Kenya (Nock) treasurer, Fridah Shiroya was on Tuesday set free by the court in relation to Rio Olympic Fiasco.

The prosecution dropped all charges she was facing in relation to the mistreatment of Team Kenya athletes at the Rio 2016 Olympics, abuse of office and theft of kit.

Fridah Shiroya is in line to be paraded as State witness in the case against her fellow officials after she earned her freedom at Milimani Law Courts.

The prosecution said that the NOCK treasurer has been highly cooperative during the entire investigation and stated the intention to treat her as a witness against colleagues.

Others collegues facing charges include First Vice-Chairman Pius Ochieng, Secretary General, Francis Kinyili Paul and Head of Mission Stephen arap Soi.

NOCK had been accused of miscunducting the prepation and poor handling of both finances and athletes in the just concluded Rio Olympics 2016.

Probes to the committe earlier revealed shocking details on mismanagement of the team and funds  with National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) saying that they paid for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s accommodation despite announcing that he was not travelling to Brazil.

According to Soi when he appeared before Labor Committee of the National Assembly on early september, three more rooms were paid for in a cruise ship for President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

The cost of accommodation on a daily basis was rated $605 per person. Soi reported that $ 564 per day was paid by NOCK for the chairman of the Senate Committee for 18 days.
