Ex Mungiki Leader Charged With Possession Of Crude Weapons

Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has been arraigned at Nairobi’s Makadara Law Courts. This comes 5 days after he was taken at Oloosurutia in Kajiado County. He was put in custody at an undisclosed location.

As per a duly stamped charge sheet seen, the accused has been charged with possession of offensive weapons contrary to section 89 (1) of the Penal Code, CAP 63.

The sheet also captures two other names, Peter Njoroge Kamunya, and Felix Ratu Lakishe, charged alongside Maina Njenga.

“On the 20th day of July 23 at Kiserian area within Kajiado County, without reasonable excuse, were found in possession of offensive weapons to wit 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus, and three jembes sticks in circumstances which raised a reasonable presumption that the said offensive weapons intended to be used in a manner prejudicial to the public order,” the sheet read in part.

On Wednesday last week, he was taken from his father’s home in Kajiado County alongside his brother and personal assistant. His family decried the act, terming it a constitutional violation. The family spokesman, Murungaru Kamiti, said so and called out the State for detaining Maina without revealing his precise whereabouts.
