Nyamira women rep. Jerusha Momanyi has called for a sustainable way of retaining the girl-child in school through provision of sanitary towels.
The women rep claimed implementation of the government’s programme on supply of the hygienic items to female learns in schools had been relaxed.
Addressing women from the county at Rigoma girls secondary schools, Momanyi observed initially absenteeism of the girl-child from the learning institutions had been contained through regular sanitary supplies.
The women rep. who is also a member of Parliamentary Education committee disclosed proposals were underway to allocate additional funds on the programme owing to the rising cost of living.
According to her the move will ensure the girl-child had ample time to concentrate in her studies and excel.
Momanyi challenged mothers to holistically mold the girl-child into responsible women and citizens of the country.
Nyamira county Director of Education (CDE) Margret Mwirigi ,decried continued loss of teachers to covid-19 and appealed to residents to strictly observe the protocols the ministry of health had put in place.
She said the sector cannot afford to lose teachers some who had used substantial public resources to become professionals in respective fields.
On the on-going Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) assessment tests for grade 4 learners, the CDE urged stakeholders to support the exercise saying it was meant to upgrade the learners.
