I did not pray for my daughters trip, mother mourns

A mother of one of the victims of the fatal plane crash that occurred on Sunday morning in Ethiopia killing all of its one hundred and fifty seven occupants says she did not pray for her daughter during the trip.

Selah Murundu from Bilibili Village in Tongaren Constituency, Bungoma County says that she has often prayed for her children whenever they are leaving the country and coming back.

Selah says she didn’t do it this time as usual when her daughter was out of the country.

The fifty seven years old widow whose daughter was an employee of Kenya Airports Authorities and had been sent to Egypt for an official duty.

She was the acting General Manager, Human Resource Development, at the Kenya Airports Authority.

Juliet had been recalled by the CEO following the Kenya Aviation Authority staff strike.

Selah, a mother of seven on Tuesday told scribes who visited the homestead that Juliet was her second born child and her favorite.

She said that the last time she was with her daughter was in January this year after she had come from holiday in Mombasa.

She said that her daughter who is married in Yala has been of great help to her and the entire family since their father died in 2007.

‘I usually pray for my children every time they live for abroad and last week Juliet called me and informed me of the trip and I don’t really know what happened that she didn’t remind me of when she was to depart that I failed to pray for her journey mercies,’ she said amid tears.

Selah said that all of her children have been raised up in a God fearing manner and have always placed God ahead of all their endeavors.

She said that she usually calls all her children on Sundays and talks with them at length with Juliet being the last.

Selah said that she received the saddening news of the demise of her daughter while she was attending a merry go round meeting at a members place.

While we were at the meeting, I saw the owner of the house talking on phone and getting outside of the house in a shocked manner but I didn’t sense, ‘she said.

She said that her son called her and asked of her whereabouts. She told him she was at chamaa and he said he will call later and talk.

She became impatient and called her son after an hour who revealed to her that Juliet had passed on in the Ethiopian air crash.

She described Juliet as a lovely mother who took good care of her three children Bradley and Wendy who are in university while Elsie has cleared university and is working at Deloitte.

Selah asked the state to do a thorough probe on the cause of the plane crash.

‘I’m calling upon the state to hurriedly bring the bodies back home so we may give my daughter a descent send off,’

Meshack Indimuli, a neighbor said that the community has received the news with a heavy heart.

They termed Juliet as a respectful person who would shower her family members and neighbors with gifts during December holidays and when she came home from abroad trips.
