KDF Soldiers Arrested After Beating Police

Two Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers were arrested after triggering a confrontation with police officers at Lang’ata High School in Nairobi.

The two soldiers who are siblings reportedly stormed the school over the weekend while allegedly drunk during a fire incident that gutted down a dormitory.

Sammy Munya and his sister Rose Munya were requested by the school’s principal to vacate the compound to allow plainclothes officers conduct investigations but they declined.

They also resisted attempts to throw them out of the school and in the ensuing melee, Sammy beat up a corporal identified as Peter Legeto and damaged the door of a police vehicle.

“I went to talk to the two as I thought they were among the plainclothes police in the school. I became suspicious when the other investigators denied knowing them,” stated the institution’s head Teresa Mutegi.

According to Lang’ata OCPD Elijah Maina, the two siblings were booked at Langata Station and have since been charged.

“One of them was a parent who had come to visit the son after hearing about the fire incident. She, however, failed to comply with the directive of the school administration prompting the arrest,” the OCPD stated.

They were charged with being drunk and disorderly with Mr Munya being hit with additional charges of assaulting a police officer and damage to property.

In the past, different alterations have been reported amongst officers from different departments some of which have ended up fatalities.
