Kenya Inks Deal With Amazon To Monitor Sports Performance

With the aim of of revolutionizing sports performance through advanced data analytics, the Kenyan government through the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports has announced that it is set to partner with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The Youth affairs cabinet secretary, Ababu Namwamba highlighted that the Amazon Web Services partnership is a commitment and dedication by the ministry aimed at supporting athletes and advancing sports excellence in Kenya by embracing innovative technologies.

“The Kenya Kwanza administration is very clear that data analytics is the way to go, because if we want to handle the future, then we have to embrace technology in data analytics,” Cabinet Secretary Ababu noted.

The CS went further ahead and added that the country has rare gems like Faith Cherotich, a 19-year-old 3000m steeplechase athlete, who can be put into a data analytics program whereby she can certainly thrive and break records shortly.

While, citing Australia’s unparalleled success in swimming as a testament to its pioneering use of data analytics, the cabinet secretary noted that Kenya is keen to embrace technology to enhance the performance of its athletes

“Countries globally are embracing data analytics in sports & as a renowned athletics powerhouse, we are thrilled to partner with the Kenyan government to elevate sports performance to new heights,” said Robin Njiru, Regional Lead – West, East & Central Africa Amazon Web Services.

According to the ministry, it’s important to note that the program can also assist Kenya’s anti-doping agency in the fight against the scourge, by providing valuable analysis to monitor the performances of athletes in the country.

The Ministry of Sports wants to Leverage Amazon Web Services’ cutting-edge technologies, with the initiative marking a significant advancement toward achieving sports excellence.
