Health workers in Nduru Level 4 hospital in Nyamarambe, South Mugirango in Kisii County withdrew their services after rowdy youth last week roughed up the officials while carrying out duties at the facility.
Preliminary reports into the ugly incident indicated that the unruly mob attacked the medics on April 12 2023 as they were transferring an anesthetic machine to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Speaking in kisii town over the weekend, acting County Director Medical Services Dr. Matiko Giabe castigated the incident in which medical officers including the Biomedical Engineer and the driver were badly injured by rowdy youth opposed to the relocation of the equipment.
Dr. Giabe said that they had made the relevant communication and issued documents to relevant authorities as it was also a normal activity for facilities to borrow working equipment.
Aggrey Orwenyo, the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentist Union (KMPDU) Secretary urged all Health care workers from Nduru Hospital to withdraw their services until they were reassured of their safety.
They alleged that the group was locally organized by the local politicians and urged the county government to intervene and ensure justice for personnel who are undergoing treatment.
