Kitui County launches ambitious health insurance scheme

Kitui County yesterday launched the much hyped universal healthcare insurance plan that will enable all residents access affordable medical services at no cost.
Speaking during the launch ceremony held at Katulani Level 4 Hospital in Kitui Central, Governor Charity Ngilu said the plan dubbed Kitui County Healthcare Insurance Cover (K-CHIC) seeks to provide health solutions to over 270,000 households in the county.
“Through this plan which covers several components including in-patient cost, mortuary bill not exceeding 7 days, specialized treatment within referrals in the county, ambulance costs among others, the county government seeks to guarantee that no patients get detained in public hospitals within the county citing unpaid bills,” said Ngilu.
Health CS Sicily Kariuki and Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka lauded Ngilu’s administration for keeping its promise of affordable and quality healthcare for all Kitui residents.
The launch was attended by thousands of Kitui residents drawn from all corners of the county.
Also gracing the event were governors Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Anyang Nyong (Kisumu), EALA MP Kennedy Musyoka, Kitui Woman MP Irene Kasalu and Wavinya Ndeti among others.
