Kenyatta National Hospital has issued a seven-day notice on the disposal of unclaimed bodies. The hospital has urged members of the public to identify and collect bodies of their kin within seven days, failure to which the hospital has divulged plans of engaging the court to assist in the disposal of the bodies.

” Pursuant to Public Health Act Cap 242 [Subsidiary Legislation PUBLIC HEALTH (PUBLIC MORTUARIES) RULES, 1991], interested members of the public are therefore requested to identify and collect the bodies within 7 days, failure to which the hospital will seek authority from the courts to dispose them.”Read the statement in part.

The institution proceeded to release a roster detailing the unclaimed bodies, encompassing a combined total of 541 individuals, comprising both children and adults. Out of the 66 adults on the list, 20 are unidentified.

This notice follows a similar one published by the institution last year October, urging the public to retrieve a total of 224 unclaimed bodies within a 14-day window.

The list of the bodies is available at the health facility’s farewell home and can be accessed via https://knh.or.ke/publications/disposal/2024/DISPOSAL_LIST_2024-MARCH.pdf
