Liverpool sign Joel matip

Jurgen Klopp seems to be busy this summer as he tries to restructure the team. Days after signing Mane from Southampton, the club has confirmed adding Joel Matip to the list of Liverpool players.

The center- back’s long-term contract with the Reds has begun following the conclusion of his previous deal with Bundesliga side FC Schalke.

Matip will take part in the start of pre- season training with his new teammates at Melwood on Saturday, when Jürgen Klopp’s side begin preparations for the 2016-17 campaign.

Matip is likely to miss at least six games in January and February with the African Cup of Nations taking place in Gabon next year. His absence will surely be missed with it highly likely that the Cameroonian will be a starter next season.

Liverpool’s media team announced the signing on all social media platforms, but initially on the club’s official website.

It is also noteworthy that Matip is a great ball player and is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder. So he will provide competition among-st the center- halves as well as breathing down the necks of the club’s midfielders.
