Maralal residents this morning caused commotion outside the Samburu County Assembly before the swearing in of Members of County Assembly (MCA) protesting the nomination of an “outsider” under a Jubilee ticket.
The protesters blocked the entrance of County Assembly to ensure that one Agnes Wambui does not gain access to the chambers for her swearing in.
Issac Loseneti a protester lamented that the nomination of Wambui is illegal since she is not a resident of Samburu County.
He blamed the Jubilee party for illegally sneaking the name of Wambui into the nomination list of Samburu County MCAs without considering residents.
“We have young leaders in this county capable of delivering as nominated MCAs, Samburu is not a dumping ground for rewarding politicians,” he said.
However, the police arrived to control the irate residents who denied even elected MCAs access to the chamber. The swearing in ceremony for the 26 MCAs which was to kick off at 9:00 am ended up starting at 10.30am.
