Matiang’i appoints Moi University acting vice chancellor

The government has approved the appointment of Prof Laban Ayiro as the acting vice chancellor (VC) of Moi University. This follows the expiry of the term of service of Prof Richard Mibey as vice chancellor.

The approval was made by the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education Dr Fred Matiang’i, following a request by the Moi University Council in a letter dated, 19th September, 2016. The Council had sought CS’s approval to appoint the acting VC from a list of three professors. The three included Prof Laban

The Council had sought CS’s approval to appoint the acting VC from a list of three professors. The three included Prof Laban Ayiro, Prof Daniel Tarus and Prof Isaac Kimengi — as acting Vice Chancellor of Moi University with immediate effect.

Prof Ayiro is Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Planning; Prof Tarus is Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance while Prof Kimengi is Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic.

The appointment, according to the Chairman of the University Council Prof J. Kinyamario is for three months or until such a time as the substantive Vice Chancellor shall have been appointed. The process of appointing a substantive Vice Chancellor is on-going.

Prof Mibey has been at the helm of Moi University as Vice Chancellor for ten years.
