Moi ordered to pay Ksh.1 billion in land compensation

Eldoret High court has ordered that former president Daniel Arap Moi pay 1.06Billion as compensation for illegally acquiring 53 acres of land that belonged to an 81 year old widow, Susan Chelugui.

Judge Antony Obwayo said the land was acquired in an unlawful manner by former president Moi and Ray Plywood Limited .The petition was made for the loss of their land through an unprocedural scheme.

Paper trails show that the late Ex-chief Noah Chelugui, a shareholder of the King’ong’o Farm subdivided his piece and registered his portion as Kapkoros Estate that measured 620 acres. Ms Chelugui stated that the land was acquired through deception and denied that her husband sold the property.

Ms Chelugui and her son David Chelugui told the court that Moi transferred their family land to himself in 2007. Two years after the death of her husband the former president is then said to have sold the land to Rai Plywood Limited.

The judge ordered that the 1st and 2nd respondents pay the estate of the Late Noah Chelugui the prompt payment in full of current market value of the said properties.
