Mother of three sits KCPE in labour ward

A KCPE candidate in Bondo sat her exam in hospital after giving birth just as the test began countrywide. Rachel Atieno, 30, registered as a private candidate at Bondo Township Primary School. She gave birth to a baby boy on Tuesday morning at Bondo Subcounty Hospital.

Atieno began her mathematics paper an hour late as she was still in labour by 8am, the official start time.

“We received the patient on Monday night. She managed to have a normal delivery on Tuesday morning. It was not possible for her to begin her examination with others at exactly 8am,” medical superintendent Ahomo Okech said.

The mother of three is a tailor in Bondo town. She said she is determined to continue her studies after dropping out of school two years ago. Meanwhile, 10 inmates at the Siaya Prison sat the exam, which ended yesterday.
