Narok Shuts Down 23 Bars In Relentless Crackdown

Narok County Commissioner Reuben Lotiatia has closed 23 bars in Kojongá, Enoseian and Ntulele trading Centers in Narok East Sub County that were operating without a valid license.

Eight people were arrested and over 5,000 litres of illicit brew were nabbed during a day-long crackdown that was led by the top security team in the County.

The security team took issue with ‘Litmus Bar’, which operates in all the trading centres in the Sub County without a license, saying the premises will remain closed until they get a valid license to allow them to operate.

“Every premises that sells alcoholic drinks should be inspected properly to ensure every drink they sell is certified by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KeBS). The premises should also not be near a worship centre, school or residential estate,” he said.

He reiterated that the impromptu crackdowns will continue in the County to ensure no illicit brew is sold to unsuspecting consumers.

“There are no premises selling alcohol and are not licensed that will continue operating after the ongoing crackdown. This exercise will be trickled down to all the Sub Counties, Wards and Villages until we ensure that our County is safe from illicit brewing,” he reiterated.

The Village elders who spoke during the exercise thanked the government for closing the doors of the notorious bars that were famous for dealing with counterfeit drinks.
