United States President Joe Biden announced that he has dropped from running for reelection and hence ended his reelection campaign.

The US President announced this on Sunday and thereafter named the candidate ha had endorsed.

He added that it is in the best interest of his party and the country for him to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling his duties as the President for the remainder of his term.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” read the statement in part from President Biden.

The US elections are scheduled to take place in January 2025.

Biden, 81, has endorsed his Vice President Kamala Harris, 59 to succeed him as the Democratic candidate.

“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” wrote President Biden on X.

Kamala thanked Joe for his leadership and service as the president of the US and further thanked him for endorsing her.

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” expressed VP Kamala Harris.

Additionally, she vowed to do everything in her power to unite the Democratic Party, and the United States and to defeat Donald Trump.

“I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda. If you’re with me, add a donation right now,” Kamala added on X.

President Biden won the elections in 2020 after beating Trump and was to run against him in the next elections again.

Joe Biden had been diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier in the week marking it the third time he had been diagnosed with it.

This forced him to cut short his campaign trip to Las Vegas.
