President Ruto Allocates Ksh 1.7 Billion Grants To Fishing Groups In Coastal Counties

In a significant move to support the coastal fishing communities, President William Ruto has issued Ksh 1.7 billion in grants to 612 fishing groups from Mombasa, Tana River, Kwale, Lamu, and Kilifi Counties.

The Ksh 1.7 billion grants program is part of the government’s effort to support the coastal fishing industry.

The program aims to provide financial assistance to fishing groups, improve infrastructure, and promote sustainable fishing practices, ultimately boosting the economic well-being of the coastal communities.

Speaking during the issuance of the grants President William Ruto noted that fishing is a key component of the government’s Bottom-up Economic Development Agenda(BETA) highlighting the need for the country to embrace in blue economy.

“Fishing is a key component of our Bottom-Up Economic Development Agenda. That is why we are investing in our blue economy to unlock its huge potential. This deliberate plan will generate more than Sh120 billion a year and create employment for thousands of our youth,” stated President Ruto.

The allocation of grants is part of the government’s broader initiative to revitalize the fishing sector, improve economic opportunities, and enhance food security in the coastal areas.

By empowering local fishing groups, the government aims to create sustainable income sources, increase fish production, and promote responsible fishing practices.

President Ruto’s commitment to supporting the fishing communities underscores his administration’s dedication to inclusive development and economic empowerment across Kenya.

The coastal fishing groups receiving the grants are expected to utilize the funds for purchasing modern fishing equipment, enhancing storage facilities, and improving overall fishing practices to increase productivity and income.

According to the President a unified approach will ensure that the benefits of such initiatives reach all Kenyans, fostering national growth and prosperity.
