President Uhuru fires David Kimaiyo, Karangi takes over as KAA chair

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sacked former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo as the Kenya Airports Authority board chairman and replaced him with former Chief of Defence Forces Major-General Julius Karangi.

In a gazette notice released on Friday, the President announced that Mr Kimaiyo had been dropped from the senior position at KAA.The statement also pointed out that the position would now be occupied by immediate former Chief of Defence Forces Julius Karangi.

“I appoint with immediate effect Major General Julius Karangi to be the non-executive chairman of KAA with immediate effect. The appointment of David Kimaiyo is revoked,” reads part of the notice.

Kimaiyo was appointed to the position in 2014 after resigning as the police boss. It is unclear what led to the sacking of the former Inspector General.

Also featured in the new appointments are former politician Raphael Tuju who will now Chair Lake Basin Development Authority and Ramadhan Kajembe to head Kenya Ferry Services.
