PROBLEMS LINKED TO MENTAL HEALTH

Kisii county based psychologists have attributed current unusual behavior in society to Covid-19 generated mental disorders.

The psychologists speaking at Muungano Gender Forum session in Kisii town cited torching of schools by learners as one of the mental disorders.

Dr. Rose Otieno of Kisii University remarked  mental health discussions had been confined to institutions as opposed to a holistic approach where the society was fully involved.

According to the psychologist, students could be reacting to certain stressful phenomena when they burnt their schools after long periods of access to negative influence.

She recommended learners to be exposed early to professional counseling adding that problems in society should be handled psychologically.

Another psychologist, Luciano Nyambati, said Covid-19  brought  a myriad of challenges to learners who had no specific schedule to follow unlike in the traditional set up where they were clearly defined.

After the reopening of the schools, she observed, the learners struggled to de-link themselves from the harmful behavior they had copied through  various expressions.

Nyambati recommended that the society re-examine itself with a view of finding out what prevented them from coping with the problems.

KUPPET branch secretary, Laban Abincha urged teachers to charge and  handle learners tactfully since they would  want to adopt to certain situations.

He criticized some parents who during the long break left their children to experiment on bad behavior which was proving  to be costly.
