Kisii Teaching and Referral and Hospital has been exposed to public nuisance owing to congestion its the mortuary from 15 unclaimed bodies.
The facility’s authorities have warned of a grave inconvenience due to breach of Rule 3 of the Public Health Act Cap. 242 of the Laws of Kenya.
According to Thomas Makworo,Senior Public Health Officer, in charge of the hospital’s sanitation department,12 out of the 15 bodies including two of female children were unknown.
Three others identified as Philip Machuka Ondego,Elijah Omboto and Shadrack Omari came from the hospital’s wards.
The bodies were brought in from the hospital’s wards and six police stations within the county between September 2020 and December 2021.
Families and relatives of the bodies have been advised to collect them immediately for burial.
Unclaimed bodies usually risk disposal by the hospital at public cemeteries under the Public Health Act to remove the nuisance and decongest the morgue.
