Political leaders in Uasin Gishu County have reiterated their support for the ongoing Affordable Housing Programme of the national government that aims to provide every Kenyan up to those in the lowest status in society the chance to afford access to decent housing in the urban setting.
Led by Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Chelilim, the leaders accompanied President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during their tour to launch various development projects in the county including Affordable Housing Projects at Pioneer and Kidiwa estates where the government intends to construct 2000 units and 200 units consecutively to enhance people’s access to decent housing.
Governor Chelilim commended the president’s move to launch the housing projects in the county noting that it will enable people to move to the urban settlements giving enough room in the rural areas for agricultural production to boost food security at the one country’s breadbasket county.
Additionally, he acknowledged the launching of the 64 ultra-modern market which he said will boost trade in the Eldoret CBD and at the same time contribute to the proper organization of the town which is inching closer to city status.
“The project is ideal for our traders in town who have no farms to cultivate but rather depend on the sale of their various merchandise. We have put plans in place to provide security in the CBD and its environs to ensure our people conduct trade without any disturbance,” he said.
The 64 ultra-modern market is set to accommodate about 4000 traders and provide social amenities like health centres, day-care, Wi-Fi network, underground parking and others.
He said the project’s affordable housing, modern market and also the upcoming railway city will help boost the socio-economic status of the town which will attract more investors and open up more employment opportunities.
Senator Jackson Mandago indicated that the housing project would provide not only access to proper housing but also employment to many jobless youths in the country who will work both at the construction sites and at the factories producing construction materials.
