Is having sex safe when you are pregnant?

A lot of women get scared about the do’s and don’ts of having sex when pregnant. Well, this article would teach you just about everything you need to know.

  1. First, it’s very okay and healthy to have sex during pregnancy except your doctor says otherwise. As far as your pregnancy is okay and normal, having sex shouldn’t be an issue.
  2. The most important rule you should consider when having sex during pregnancy is to be comfortable.
  3. Your sexual desire might wane during the early stages of your pregnancy due to hormonal changes, fatigue and nausea. So if this happens to you, don’t be worried; it’s perfectly normal.
  4. Sex during pregnancy cannot really cause a miscarriage. A lot of miscarriage happens because of poor foetus development.
  5. Your baby is well protected when you are having sex during pregnancy. The strong muscles of the uterus and the amniotic fluid in your uterus protect your baby.
  6. It’s okay to feel fatigue and have less desire for sex during the first trimester. However, try to have sex when the mood arises. At this stage, you tend to be well lubricated and extra sensitive and you don’t have a big belly to worry about.
  7. It’s okay to have almost any sexual style you desire at this stage (the first trimester).
  8. During the second trimester, your morning sickness must have gone and you may feel more in the mood for sex. Try to avoid sex styles like the missionary style that would have you lying on your back. Lying on your back could affect blood flow to the placenta, because the enlarged uterus could put pressure on your aorta.
  9. You should try to enjoy your sex at this stage as much as possible because you would have a big belly to worry about during the third trimester.
  10. Your big belly might be a cause for concern during the third trimester. The sex would still be great but you should try a position that wouldn’t put pressure on your belly. During the third trimester, you should try to seek control so you can be comfortable and know how best to enjoy the penetration of your man. Woman on top, seated on the edge of a chair, spooning and side entry are good styles to consider. Also, avoid lying on your back.
  11. Oral sex is okay during pregnancy but you should make sure your partner doesn’t blow air into your vagina; this could cause a blockage in the blood vessel and if this happens, you could cause certain life-threatening complications for you and the baby.
  12. Anal sex isn’t too safe during pregnancy; it could pose a risk of infection, as bacteria could spread to your vagina.
