Specialist advocates for regular therapy to manage autism especially among affected children

Apparently six percent of children with different disabilities in the country are suffering from autism according to a recent health survey.

Celestine Omondi the chief occupational therapist in Kenyatta National Hospital says this is a very high percentage which is worrying the medics.

Omondi said autism cases have overtaken the cerebral palsy which was common in the 80s and 90s.

Omondi said though the actual course of autism is not know, occupational therapy helps in managing the condition and children are able to lead normal lives.

Muranga first lady Wambui Kngata who graced the occasion pledges to have a special program for mother with autistic children and cerebral palsy to ensure they get access to occupational therapy.

Rebecca Kimanzi county occupational therapist said the number of patients seeking the services at the public facilities is high pointing out that over the past three months they have attending to over 300 patients.
