Stalls at Gikomba Market razed down by the raging fire

Traders are counting losses after a fire torched down Gikomba market. The fire is reported to have started at 2am on Wednesday and was still on at 7 am.

Various emergency response were on the ground to control the inferno. The cause of the fire is still unknown coming hot on the heels of another fire in May whose cause is als0 still unknown.

There has been a history of fires at Gikomba market ever since the year 2010.  A countless number of traders watched from a distance with dozens of police officers deployed blocking entry to the burning section.

Property that has been consumed today is estimated to be worth millions of shillings. The authorities are investigating the matter with the aim of identifying the main reason behind the inferno. No casualties have been reported so far.
