Traffic police officer captured on camera collecting bribes suspended

The National Police Service (NPS) has positively identified the cop in the viral video circulating on social media captured allegedly collecting bribes from motorists.

According to NPS, the police officer has been identified as Haron Mwangi, officer number 63151 PC.

The traffic officer who was attached to traffic within Buruburu Police Station has been suspended.

The proceedings for his dismissal are currently underway.

The National police service commended the public and the press for collaborating with the Unit in combatting corruption.

“The National Police Service takes this opportunity to commend members of the public and Members of the Press for their continued collaboration with NPS in the fight against corruption,” read the statement by the National Police Service.

NPS affirmed its commitment to fighting corruption and promoting ethical standards among its employees.

 

 

“The National Police Service remains committed to its constitutional mandate of fighting corruption, striving for the highest standards of professionalism and discipline among its members, promoting accountability, transparency, and upholding the rule of law,” the NPS statement read in part.
