UDA Cancels Repeat Election For Kamkunji Constituency

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) through a statement dispatch has announced the cancellation of the scheduled repeat election for Kamkunji Constituency due to unavoidable circumstances.

The repeat election was set to take place today at the Hustler Center starting at 9 p.m., the election has been called off, as conveyed by the National Election Board of UDA in a notice issued on June 5th.

“The National Election Board of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) hereby issues a notice of cancellation for the repeat election in Kamkunji Constituency, which was scheduled to take place on Thursday 6th June 2024, at Hustler Center at 9:00 am,” read the statement.

In their statement, the UDA expressed their deepest regrets for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation and assured that information regarding the rescheduling of the election will be communicated soon.

The cancellation comes a day after a notice issued on 5th June, addressing the repeat election for the religious position within Kamkunji Constituency.

According to the prior notice, the eligible voters for the election included elected Ward officials from the elections held on May 18th, 2024 and the repeat ward election on the 19th May 2024, as well as the nominated and elected Members of the National Assembly.

However, this sudden cancellation has sparked concerns among party members and the public, especially amidst ongoing investigations into previous election-related violence.

Furthermore, on June 5th UDA announced the results of the Friday polls for MPs contesting for constituency chairman seats, with winners declared as James Gakuya- MP Embakasi North, John Kiarie- MP Dagoretti North, and Johana Ngeno- MP Emurua Dikirr.

These results have magnified the state of the election for the upcoming county polls, with some MPs now hoping to win the county chairperson seats.

Looking ahead, The elected Constituency representatives from phase 1 will soon be notified by the  UDA’s National Election Board on the elections about the date and venue for the scheduled county elections across the respective counties.
