President Uhuru Kenyatta today president over the launch of new police cars at Uhuru Park in Nairobi County.
Speaking during the event, the head of state said that four years ago the country was facing security challenge.

Uhuru further noted that in 2013, the National Police Service had in its strength a paltry 3,155 vehicles nationwide, most of which were in disrepair.
Currently, the total number of vehicles of different types in use by the police now stands at 5,875.
The launch of the 525 vehicles which consists of 25 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAPs), trucks and cars at Uhuru Park in Nairobi, is part of the government’s police modernisation programme.
“When my Administration came into office four years ago, our country was facing serious security challenges emanating from terrorism and other forms of organized crime, which required innovative ways to tackle. In 2013, the National Police Service had in its strength a paltry 3,155 vehicles nationwide, most of which were in disrepair,” he said.
“The total number of vehicles of different types in use by the police now stands at 5,875. These investments have impacted on the lives of ordinary Kenyans. There has been significant progress in counter-terrorism arising from enhanced capacity.”
State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said yesterday during the weekly briefing that the vehicles will enable the police to provide the necessary security, which is an important requirement for economic development.
The event was attended by Interior and Coordination of National Government CS Joseph Nkaissery, Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Ndegwa Muhoro, National Police Service Commission chairman Johnstone Kavuludi among other leaders. Below are more photos.
