The United Kingdom has issued a travel advisory for the British in Kenya, cautioning them to avoid visiting various parts of the country.
This warning was issued through the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO). The FCDO informs British nationals on safety, health and terrorism so they can make decisions about travelling abroad.
“Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against FCDO advice,” the statement issued by the office read in part.
First on the list is the Kenya-Somalia border. The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to areas within 60km of Kenya’s border with Somalia.
The second area is the eastern frontier of Garissa Count. The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to eastern Garissa County, up to 20km northwest of the A3.
The 3rd area on the list is Mandera County. The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Mandera County, excluding the Mandera West sub-county.
Fourth on the list is Lamu County. The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Lamu County, excluding Lamu Island and Manda Island.
Tana River was also listed as a red flag. The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to areas of Tana River County north of the Tana River, up to 20km northwest of the A3.
