Wema to face trial for posting nudes

Tanzanian actress and socialite Wema Sepetu was on Thursday November 1, 2018 brought to trial in Kisutu Resident Magistrate Court over what is considered to be unacceptable immoral behavior. This was after she shamelessly uploaded on her Instagram account, a video of herself and her lover (who is said to be Burundian) doing the ‘nasty’. The whole country was in uproar following the unbecoming behaviour which she later apologized for. According to Tanzania’s much revered laws, it is against the law for any member of the public to make so readily available a video in which he/she is in an alarmingly compromising manner…in this case, a sex tape.

“You have disgraced the nation by making viewers imitate your obscene behavior, habits and culture, which are inappropriate. You have gone against the country’s national values and brought shame to it,” were the remarks made by a film representative in Dar es Salaam last Friday. This resulted in Wema Sepetu getting a ban for an undisclosed period of time by the country’s film board.

Lately, posting nudes or semi-nude pictures on social medial, particularly on Instagram and Facebook has been the norm, or maybe the trending ‘fashion’ in an aimless effort to gain fame, or better yet take the bull by the horns.
