Two police cars were torched following an al Shabaab attack at Lafey police post in Mandera county on Thursday. At least 12 officers escaped unhurt after the more than 50 al Shabaab militants randomly destroyed the station.
The hostiles escaped with one vehicle. The attack came just hours after three people were killed by the terror group at Nyongoro in Witu, Lamu county. The three were among passengers in a bus plying the Lamu-Garsen highway.
They fired at the bus before police officers arrived and engaged them in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to retreat. One person was left with a gunshot wound. The bus was on its way from Mombasa to Kipini at about 3.30pm.
