This year’s Nairobi city marathon is said to have had nearly 15,000 participants in attendance including the Cabinet secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Kenya Kipchumba Murkomen.
The 42 km race saw the top three finalists take home 3 million, 2.25 million, and 1.5 million shillings respectively.
The winners of the Nairobi City Marathon were selected based on their performance in the 42 km race.
The top three finishers were determined by their finishing times, with the fastest athletes taking the top spots.
These impressive times posted by the top athletes highlighted the competitive nature of the marathon across all categories.
“I am thrilled to have participated in the 3rd edition of the Nairobi City Marathon” stated Murkomen expressing his excitement.
He highlighted Kenya’s reputation in long-distance running, saying, “With Kenya’s unmatched legacy in long-distance running, it’s no surprise that athletes from over 40 countries registered for this year’s event.”
“The impressive times posted in all categories show just how competitive the races were,” he added.
He praised the record number of Kenyans who participated for fun, acknowledging their embrace of sport for health and the unique experience that comes with it.
The Ministry of Sports co-sponsored the event, and Murkomen extended his gratitude to other sponsors and Athletics Kenya for delivering yet another great marathon in Nairobi.
He also spoke of the marathon’s contribution to environmental conservation, noting that the marathon was in full support of the president’s plan for the tree planting operation
“As we champion sports for climate action, today’s tree-planting during the marathon was a key step in supporting the President’s 15 billion tree initiative,” Murkomen stated.
The marathon is believed to have been in support of the President’s initiative for environmental sustainability in a bid for a greener future.
