19-Gun Salute Expected In Honour of General Ogolla After Memorial Service In Ulinzi Sports Complex

According to the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Defence Aden Duale, a military parade, and a 19-gun salute will be done in honour of the late General Francis Ogolla after the church service currently underway at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata.

The late General will receive a 19-gun salute similar to that of the late Presidents Moi and Kibaki. While a head of state who is also the Commander-in-chief of the armed forces receives 21 gun salutes, former heads of state get 19 gun salutes.

presidents who die out of office can also get a 21-gun salute if the sitting president orders that they are buried in full military uniform for their terms served as Commander-in-Chief.

President William Ruto, His Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and other senior government officials are in attendance for the service.

Military honours are also to be conducted in line with military procedures. According to the funeral programme, the late General will be buried on Sunday 21st, April 2024.

He will be airlifted to his home in Ng’iya village, Alego Usonga Sub-County, Siaya County where his burial will take place.

A funeral service will be held at Senator Obama K’Ogello Primary School in Ng’iya Village whereby guests will be expected to be seated by 10:00 am.

In line with the late General’s family wishes, a requiem mass will be held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata, Nairobi County on Friday 26th April 2024.
