2 Suspects Apprehended With Over Ksh. 9Million Worth of Bhang

A specialized team of detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit in Mombasa and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Diani has successfully targeted two drug traffickers in the busy Chief area of Diani, resulting in the seizure of Marijuana valued at over Sh9 million.

Acting on a vital tip-off, the officers promptly detained a suspect named Hamisi Omar, who subsequently guided them to a nearby drug facility where they discovered 10 sacks of Marijuana weighing 314.05 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Sh9,421,500.

“Following a crucial tip-off, the officers swiftly apprehended a suspect Hamisi Omar, who led them to a nearby drug store where they uncovered 10 sacks of Marijuana weighing 314.05kgs with an approximate street value of Sh9, 421, 500. The pursuit then led to the arrest of the main suspect, Irene Auma, aged 30 years in a nearby house,” wrote the DCI.

This operation culminated in the arrest of the primary suspect, Irene Auma, a 30-year-old woman, at a nearby residence.

In a parallel operation at the Luore shopping Centre in the Rusinga West area, another team of officers conducted a raid on a suspected drug den, seizing unrolled bhang valued at Sh1,749,000, along with 30 jerry cans of illicit brew (Chang’aa) estimated at around Sh240,000.

The main suspect, identified as Kevin Barasa, also known as Kevo, managed to escape.

The apprehended traffickers are currently in police custody, and the confiscated narcotics are being preserved as evidence. Meanwhile, efforts to locate the fugitive trafficker are ongoing.

“The arrested traffickers are currently in police custody, and the recovered narcotics are being kept as exhibits,” stated the DCI.
