The Hollywood Reporter has released its list of the 40 most powerful people in comedy of 2019. This is the second time the magazine has compiled the list, which results from a poll done on industry insiders.
Apart from actors, talk show hosts and stand-up comedians, the list also features writers, directors and producers. Both legends and breakouts have made the list.
Among the breakouts, Hannah Gadsby made the list thanks to her Netflix comedy special Nanette. Tiffany Haddish also made the list, thanks to the six movies she has featured in that were released in the past 12 months. Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon and Pete Davidson also made the list. HBO’s Silicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani is another breakout that made the list.
Legends include SNL creator Lorne Michaels, Day time talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, Actress Melissa McCarthy and actor Adam Sandler.
Talent agents responsible for managing the careers of comedians have also made the list; same as the touring agents who were involved in planning the biggest comedy tours of the year.
From creating hit shows to filling arenas, the people in this list have made a name for themselves in creating comedic content that will entertain generations for many years to come.
